1/9/09A very well done to Lawrence Gibson on winning the Spelga pass hillclimb event with a best time of 51.50 in his Rallycross 6R4 Metro.Lawrence then travelled over to Lydden Hill for the latest round of the British Rallycross championship where he set a fastest time of the day.
1/9/09Its catch up time here as I have been away on a internet free holiday so its business as usual here from now on. On the Pendragon Stages on August 30 Mark Holmes apparently went out on Warcop 1 in his Metro. Good to see Wayne Thomas showing off his DAM Metro which was orginally advertised on here and its a nice bit of kit in the flesh, if anyone took any pics of it at Lowther as I forgot due to running a stall there I would be greatful. "Hammy is gone" John Stone has sold Hammy (pictured below) which has gone away to its new owner in Ireland, but the details of the new owner is being kept quiet for now due to the new owners request. It is hoped that the car will appear on next years Lurgan challenge as John was interested in doing that event and we can only hope he has not left the Metro world for good. Chris Wise has told the site his car is very nearly finished as it has had some paint work and new bits added but due to work committments Chris is unsure what the first event will be in the car.
2/9/09Mark Jasper / Don Whyatt have submitted their entry for the forth coming Jersey Rally in October. The pairing have always wanted to go to Jersey as Don Whyatt told the site"We were looking to Mull but thought we have always wanted to take the Metro to Jersey so lets do it this year !!,Neither of us have even been on the island so will be treating it with caution and looking forward to the infamous social side of the weekend at the Merton !!!. Metro 6R4 Online News wishes the pairing the best of luck.
3/9/09Lawrence Gibson?s Metro 6R4 features in DiRT 2Courtesy of Scott Coursey of Rallybuzz.comStars and their cars in computer game Stars and their cars, Ireland?s local motorsport hero and current British Rallycross Champion Lawrence Gibson who has been competing in his 550bhp Metro 6R4 for more years than he cares to remember is about to enter the world of videogames.Lawrence?s colourful and famous P&O Irish Sea supported Metro 6R4 is to be featured in the latest computer game being launched by Codemasters, the makers of the Colin McRae rally games. The game, Colin McRae DiRT 2 will feature contemporary off-road events taking players to the most diverse and challenging real-world environments, such places as stadium-based events to canyon racing to jungle trials which will test players in a range of cars.Codemasters tell us that Dirt 2 will introduce a new level of visuals with both cars and tracks twice as detailed as those seen in their BAFTA award-winning GRID, DiRT 2 will feature a collection of officially licensed rally and off-road vehicles specifically selected to deliver aggressive and fast paced competition.Lawrence explains how it all came about ?I was approached way back in early 2008 by a researcher from Codemasters who asked would the car be available should they wish to use it, they were in the early stages of formulating a new computer off-road game and would like my Metro 6R4 to be one of the featured off-road vehicles, after a brief discussion with my wife Liz, son Ryan who are part of my team and Drew Gregg who is my sponsorship co-ordinator and PR, we agreed immediately as it was an honour first of all to be asked and secondly as they are a world famous producer of top quality computer games. "I got Drew involved in the project as he looks after my sponsorship and event PR and he has been co-ordinating with Codemasters since the start, the research and statistic gathering by Codemasters was really something, the detail was unbelievable, they sent a photographer to our garage in Banbridge to take detailed photographs of the car from every conceivable angle, wheels on ? wheels off, seats in ? seats out, full suspension travel, tyre dimension pics, aerial pics, under-body pics, the photographer spent a full day taking images here, then we had the technical side, things like engine revs at idle, engine revs at maximum, fuel loads, torque, drivetrains, engine movement and vibrations, power to weight ratios, and the list went on. "It was unbelievable the detail that Codemasters work to in producing a game. Since being involved with this I have great admiration for the work that goes on behind the scenes in producing a game? said Lawrence who went on to say ?it is also a fantastic pay-back to our long time sponsors P&O Irish Sea who have backed me for many years, and to all my secondary sponsors who have their names on my car, this game will be marketed worldwide in different languages and the car will appear exactly as she is in real life, with one exception they are going to feature the Metro 6R4 in a night racing element so spotlights had to be added for the game and as you know we don?t use lights in Rallycross here as all racing is in daylight but it does add another dimension to the car which is good. Dirt 2 is being released on 11th September 2009 and we can?t wait to see the finished product?.Obviously it is fantastic to see a competition car from Northern Ireland being featured alongside competition cars from other parts of the world including America and all credit to Lawrence Gibson who has certainly earned his stripes in motorsport, we can?t wait to play the gameMetro 6R4 Online News writesWhen Codemasters where looking for suitable cars and drivers they approached the website for which a few names where given and the only surviving rallycross Metro 6R4 Gb1 will be used for this game and the it will show how the Metro 6R4 is still popular amongst fans.

12/10/09Catch up time again as I have been away on the Paperclix Jersey Rally spectating. Mark Jasper / Don Whyatt where looking forward to this event in their 6R4 to see what the Metro could do in the lanes. After the first few stages they had a problem with second gear but the lads sorted it and they where away again working up the leaderboard. By the nighttime spectator stage at Victoria Avenue the pair where upto a fine third but sadly it was not to be as the clutch release bearing failed and with not enough time to fix it due to the small amount of service time Jasper elected to retire. The car could of been fixed enough for it to be ready for the Trophy event on the saturday, but rather thank risk the car the decision was made and the bar was calling. Apart from the team being gutted I was too as it proved that a 6R4 can still live with the newer WR cars as Jasper was taking time out of Peter Loyd's lead.It was said if the failure of the bearing didnt force them out then they could of well been second by the end of the night with a view to pushing on the faster flowing stages on the Saturday.Mark Jasper will next be out on the Cheviot Stages on October 25th.Reay MacKay retired from the Tour of Mull after the engine light came on.
12/10/09Well done to Phil and Mick Gallagher on winning the Woodbridge Stages in their ex Stojanov 2.5 6R4.Mick commented to the site that they put in a later entry as they where using up old tyres and wanted to try the car on their new Proflex suspension. The pairing won by 50 seconds.
